Cake Under My Pillow is located at the corner of Ferdinand Bolstraat and the Eerste Jacob van Campenstraat; this area of Amsterdam we call “de Pijp” – because of it’s small streets resembling a pipe.
Across the street you will find the Heineken Plein with half a dozen cafés and restaurants and of course the famous Heineken Brewery Museum.
One hundred meters down the street is the Albert Cuyp Market, Europe’s largest and possibly most colorful daily outdoor market.
The neighborhood has a mix of residential spaces, small classic Amsterdam cafés and bars, new stylish restaurants and “lounges”, and a wide diversity of boutiques and shops.
And at the end of the street to the west, five minutes away, is the Museumplein where you will find Amsterdam’s three premier museums, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum and of course also our famous Concertgebouw, home of the Dutch Philharmonic, and world renown for its acoustics.
And on the other side of the Museumplein, you will find the P.C. Hooftstraat, Amsterdam’s most chic high street. And from there you are only a few minutes stroll to the entrance of the Vondelpark, Amsterdam’s famous and large city park which on a summer day is full of activity, culture, people watching, café sitting and enjoying the sun.
A 10 – 15 minute walk to the north, takes you to the heart of the tourist area in the city center. The floating flower market, the Rembrandtplein, the Leidseplein, the classic canals, hundreds of cafés, restaurants, bars and nightclubs, theaters and movies are all within this area. A few minutes further and you can wander through the Red Light district, Chinatown and the Nieuwmarkt.
